Supporting CICS

THE CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL & COMPARATIVE STUDIES

The Center for International & Comparative Studies (CICS), part of the International Institute, was established in 2005 to promote teaching, research, and outreach on themes of international significance that cut across geographic areas. CICS provides resources to students and faculty with a broad interest in international studies. The center's main themes are human rights, international development, and international security & cooperation.

INTERNATIONAL STUDIES MINOR

CICS is home to the International Studies (IS) minor, a multi-disciplinary program in which students build their own curriculum within the framework of a chosen region, language, and theme. Study abroad is strongly encouraged. Through the generosity of donors, we have been able to fund internships and study abroad. CICS is also in the process of developing a major concentration in International Studies.

INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

CICS supports students and faculty whose research relates to social, political, and economic trends in developing countries. We fund research projects, internships, and exploratory seminars on topics such as:

  • Sustainable Development
  • Water Management
  • Healthcare Delivery

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY & COOPERATION

CICS organizes international conferences and courses on issues of international security and cooperation. Recent courses and workshops supported by CICS include:

  • The Accommodation of Muslims in Europe
  • Psychological Aspects of War & Peace
  • Religion & Political Radicalization

HUMAN RIGHTS

CICS is a hub for human rights scholarship on campus. We bring together scholars and practitioners working in the vast field of human rights. CICS also provides opportunities for the creation of innovative courses taught by specialists in human rights.
