In 2001, CES received a grant from the European Commission to establish a European Union Center. From 2005 to 2011, U-M's EUC was one of  ten Commission-designated European Union Centers of Excellence (EUCE) at leading research universities in the U.S. In collaboration with academic and research units across U-M, other EU Centers of Excellence, and institutions of higher education in Europe, CES-EUCE-MI offered an array of public programs, funding opportunities, and innovative curricular outreach on Europe and the European Union. For several years, CES-EUCE-MI also coordinated the Euro Challenge competition for Michigan high schools.
