The Center for Chinese Studies distinguished faculty associates, faculty emeriti and center associates form an intellectual community fostering collaboration among humanists, social scientists and professionals in an environment appreciative of the interdependency of past and present.CCS administrative staff aid in the day to day running of the center.  Close to 100 doctoral and masters degree students from different departments of U-M are affiliated with CCS; this is in addition to the Center interdisciplinary MA students.  In addition, each year visiting scholars from the U.S. and abroad join and contribute to the center's vibrant and active academic community.  

Visiting Scholars

The Center for Chinese Studies hosts scholars in the China field throughout the world for Visiting Research Scholar status at this center. These honorary affiliates are recommended to the center by CCS faculty associates who agree to serve as their faculty hosts, and are chosen on the strength of their research projects, their ability to fund their own research, and the availability of faculty or library resources on the campus of the University of Michigan to support their research needs. The length of stay varies according to each scholar, and generally falls within the range of six weeks to one year. Visiting Research Scholars must submit a detailed research proposal in English, and are expected to complete the project they originally proposed. They are an integral part of the Center's intellectual community. These scholars are granted basic access to the university library system, the computing centers, limited photocopy and mailing privileges, and shared office space, if available.
