Fellowship Description
Endowment Awards ranging from $2,500 to $7,500 may be given based on academic merit, language training, field research, archival research, and internship support.
SUPPORT FOR DOCTORAL STUDENTS
General Academic Support
A limited number of awards of varying amounts are made based on academic merit and may be used to support academic pursuits related to the students' degree programs.
Requirements & Eligibility
- All graduate students in Chinese studies at the University of Michigan, regardless of citizenship, are eligible to apply.
- Applicants must submit the CCS Funding Application and the required materials indicated on the application.
Fieldwork/Archival Research Grant (including preparatory)
Up to $7,500, renewable once; two offered per year. International students are especially encouraged to apply.
Requirements & Eligibility
- Doctoral students in good standing seeking funding for dissertation fieldwork or other types of off-campus research.
- Applicants must submit a 10-page (maximum) research prospectus in addition to the CCS Funding Application and the required materials indicated on the application
Preparatory Field/Archival Research Grant
Up to $5,000, renewable once. Three are offered per year. Designed to support preparatory work year-round and/or to cover more than one summer. This grant is intended for U.S. and international students in need of preparatory field/archival work before they attain candidacy.
Requirements & Eligibility
- Pre-candidate doctoral students only
- Applicants must submit a three-page research proposal in addition to the CCS Funding Application and the required materials indicated on the application.
