Senior Lecturer, Makerere University, Uganda
Andrew Ellias State is a sociologist with a research focus on social capital networks and livelihood patterns and the sociology of higher education in Uganda. His current research topic is “Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Development.” His teaching philosophy is that teaching and learning is an ongoing process that involves both the instructor and the learner. Having taught many courses to both traditional and non-traditional students, he feels that there is a need to understand what goes on in the lecture theatre. Andrew’s focus for the next six months is to get a deeper understanding on how learning and teaching is enhanced in USA universities and how students and professors respond to challenges in the learning process. Most important is to understand how professional growth and development takes place in a university setting.
