Before joining UWC in May 2010, Sakhumzi Mfecane was a PhD fellow at Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research (WISER). Sakhumzi’s research interest for the past 11 years has centered on men, masculinities and HIV/AIDS. He has pursued this interest throughout his post graduate studies and as a researcher for Perinatal HIV Research Unit (PHRU), Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) and Centre for AIDS Development Research and Evaluation (CADRE). His PhD research focused on constructions of masculinity among HIV positive men. While at U-M, Sakhumzi will be working on a few chapters to be published and later converted into a book, based on his PhD research.
